The version of soccer that has become such a popular game for kids in the US is not just a whittled down version of the rough and tumble game that is so popular in England and South America. In reality, youth soccer includes all games played with the soccer ball. That statement may come as a surprise to most people who are under the impression that the only game kids play in soccer clubs is traditional soccer. But in those sports clubs, even practice routines are played as games.
Professional soccer players spend grueling hours by themselves to improve the way they dribble the ball or to master kicking the ball at difficult angles. In youth clubs, not all members are professionals and these amateurs constitute the greater majority of the community. Therefore training sessions have to be devised to be interesting and motivating for young people.
