Eagles Deny Rumors That They Plan to Oust Andy Reid for Jon Gruden
DALLAS — If Jeff Fisher can be ousted in Tennessee seemingly overnight after 16-plus seasons, then Andy Reid isn’t a sacred cow in Philadelphia either despite nine playoff berths in 12 seasons.
So the Eagles hoped to put out the fire on Monday morning by issuing a statement that said the rumors of Reid being replaced by Monday Night Football commentator Jon Gruden are “simply not true.”
Reid, who became the NFL’s longest-tenured coach when the Titans dismissed Fisher, is already in the midst of a controversial offseason, having fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and replaced him with longtime offensive line coach Juan Castillo, whose last experience on that side of the ball came at a Texas high school in 1989.
