John Elway Rejoins Denver Broncos as Vice President of Football Operations
Filed under: Broncos, AFC West
John Elway is rejoining the Denver Broncos in hopes of quarterbacking another turnaround. This time, the Hall of Fame quarterback will be calling the shots from the front office.|
Owner Pat Bowlen announced Wednesday that Elway, who led the team to the NFL championships in 1997 and 1998 before retiring, had been appointed executive vice president of football operations. He’ll oversee all aspects of the team’s football operations, including leading the search for a replacement to fired coach Josh McDaniels. The Broncos let McDaniels go Dec. 6 amid the team’s worst stretch on the field in 40 years and an embarrassing videotape scandal. Denver finished the season 4-12, the most losses the team has incurred in any of its 51 seasons.
