NHL Trade Deadline: Montreal Canadiens
Filed under: Canadiens, Eastern, Trade Deadline
The Montreal Canadiens are good at exceeding expectations.
A season after they surprised the hockey world and beat heavily-favored Washington and Pittsburgh on the road to the Eastern Conference finals, the Habs are again exceeding expectations.
They’ve bought into coach Jacques Martin’s defense-first style of hockey, and the results speak for themselves. Montreal has a lock on a playoff berth, barring a massive collapse, and it has done it with a depleted lineup.
Goaltender Carey Price has been nearly brilliant; he’s made fans forget all about Jaroslav Halak, last season’s playoff hero.
Rookie defenseman PK Subban has become the latest Habs hero, and with season-ending injuries to Andrei Markov and Josh Gorges, Subban has stepped up his game and has blossomed into one of Montreal’s top performers.
